Sexual function Aug 2018
Many factors contribute to female sexual function, which changes with age and in the years surrounding menopause. Female sexual dysfunction is prevalent and associated with distressing symptoms that can challenge relationships and hamper quality of life and wellbeing. The most common type of female sexual dysfunction is lowered sexual desire. Contributing factors to female sexual dysfunction are highlighted, with a focus on those relevant to peri- and postmenopausal women. Assessment and management of women with female sexual dysfunction is discussed, including the role of menopausal hormone therapy, testosterone and other targeted treatments. New and emerging treatments are outlined.
